CSA Week Seventeen
Bananas this week!
This week we are taking a small break from lots of greens in the shares; instead you'll be getting more 'crunchy' veggies like broccoli, zucchini and cucumbers. The cucumbers we are including are the same ones the large shares got last week. Chris over at French Farms has successfully grown a 200' row of the cutest pickling cucumbers and we're all very excited about it. Don't the name keep you from eating them fresh; they are delicious as an in-hand snack, quartered for dipping into sauce or cut into slices for a salad.
The red choi in the shares is one of the only greens this week and it's more crunchy that your average greens. The green stems of the plant are edible and sometimes even considered the best part to eat. We suggest cooking the little baby plants whole like they do at Chinese restaurants. Perhaps paired with garlic and soy sauce like they do at Chinese restaurants! Check out this link for a nicely illustrated recipe. The only ingredients you'll need besides rice are:
- 1 pound baby bok choy
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 5 cloves minced garlic
- salt and white pepper, to taste
- Pinch of sugar
