CSA Week 19

Grits! Some of you have been members for multiple years and you might remember our love for a certain old farmer in Gainesville who grows corn for grits, milling it himself with a home made tool. Farmer Tiffany and Farmer Chris finally made an excursion to visit Jesse Green from Greenway Farms to score a hundred pounds of these super fresh grits (so fresh they need to be refrigerated!) for you guys. If you've never had these before, you're in for it. There's lots to know about this gem in your CSA share this week; they are non-GMO (heirloom seed actually, saved by Jesse's family) and 100% organic (he doesn't even use fertilizers or pesticides) check out greenwaygrits.com for more info. Here's a little preparation tip from a Gainesville old timer and mother of our dear friend and CSA member, Joan Pickman:
Sautee a couple cloves of garlic in butter with either a fresh jalapeno or chili flakes. Add 2 cups liquid to 1/2 cup grits. For example, a broth and heavy cream mixture (recommended ratio is 3/4 cream, the rest broth). Pour in liquid and bring to a boil, add grits, stir, then reduce to a simmer and cover. Stir occasionally until you get a desired consistency.
My advice, serve in a bowl and add veggies on top. For example, zucchini, tomatoes and herbs roasted in olive oil! Top that with crispy kale chips! Just saying...
Also, get ready for Sungold cherry tomatoes this week. They are truly natures candy; they are the sweetest tomato we've ever tried and that's pretty much a fact if you ask anyone who knows. Here's a list of everything else:
