CSA Week 11
When we noticed Michael Borek's instagram post about his crazy corn harvest we contacted him right away to get a piece of the pie for you guys. We're pretty excited about Homestead grown corn!
We're also getting more of his heirloom cherry tomatoes this week. Cherry tomatoes are one of those things we could all eat every week right?! We skipped tomatoes the past two weeks and everyone has been asking about them. To make things even more perfect, we're also getting homestead grown spring onions this week. Add a choice of parlsey, cilantro or dill from French Farms and you've got yourself a local salsa (insert dancing lady emoji here)!
Spring onions are not super popular in stores so let me tell you a bit about them. They are neither a scallion nor an onion. I suppose they are most similar to the onions you know well with the dry flaky skin, but these aren't dried so they don't have a skin. This means they are more perishable, they must be stored in the fridge. Spring onions have a milder sweeter taste than regular onions and you can use their green tops much like scallions; in a way they are the best of both worlds.
