Mid Season Seedling Sale this Sunday, December 13th
We've noticed that because of the strange and extra wet weather this year backyard gardens (and our farm!) aren't doing as well as they should be... Rain can affect mediterranean crops like zucchini, cucumber and tomatoes by allowing fungal infections to proliferate on the plants leaves and stems. Blossom end rot, powdery mildew, and tomato blight all love moist conditions, as do pests like snails and slugs which eat tender leaves close to the ground. When it comes to lettuce, frisee, arugula, mustard and other tender leaves, hard rainfall can damage them physically, by pulverizing the leaves and waying them down causing breakage and rotting.
If your garden has some holes and needs a little pick me up come see what we've got growing at our Mid Season Seedling Sale, this sunday at the nursery. Alongside our staple seedlings like kales, arugula, peppers, eggplants, edible flowers, and herbs, we will also have our LAST crop of tomatoes for the season (we dont recommend planting them after January) and our FIRST crop of lettuces, spinach, and watermelons. We only recommend growing lettuce during this "coolest" part of our season, so we have propogated tons of beautiful colored and textured lettuces for your garden. Many of them are "cut and come again" varieties, so you can harvest the whole head above the crown a few times before the plant has to be replaced.
We also have some fun stuff that would make great gifts for the plant nerd in your life... calamondine trees, keylime trees, mature pineapples already in a pot (no need to repot into something larger we've planted these cuties in reclaimed feta tins), bundles of seeds ready for stuffing stockings, secateurs, garden tools, and strawberries in hanging baskets!! Come shop for the holidays with us!
