French Farms grew this last spring and we were all surprised by its delicious flavor and its heat and disease resistance. Korean melons are like a mix between a honeydew and a cucumber. The fruit is very light and crunchy with a mild sweetness, not sickly like a cantaloupe. Intermediate resistance to powdery mildew makes it growable in our humid spring and fall months. If you’re going to grow melons make sure they’re mildew resistant varieties from warm or humid climates like Thailand & Turkey, not the more famous varieties from France, which don’t do well here at all. We recommend planting vining melons and squashes on the edge of your raised bed, allowing it to escape and crawl through the yard if possible. If you plan on keeping the entire plant in your garden expect to constantly be saving your other plants from its vigorous growing tips and give it about 12 square feet.
