Join flower farmers Muriel & Heidi for a beauty filled day at the farm focused on farm fresh flower crafting. Both Muriel and Heidi have floral backgrounds and they bring their love of flowers to their farming work in a myriad of ways. While we grow edible & cut flowers at the farm for market what we really love is finding even more creative and special ways to incorporate these flowers into our lives through the art of crafting.

This workshop will focus on how to make three simple flower crafted items: a flower crown, candied edible flowers and flower dyeing, all using ingredients from the farm that we will harvest as a group.

Flower crowns are a magical way to adorn yourself with fresh greens, berries and flowers and they are easier to make than one might imagine. We will bring all the supplies and experience you need to craft yourself a fresh crown. Wander the fields and wild borders of our farm property and harvest whatever inspires you; stems of flowers, unripe elderberries, fennel fronds or wild pondside natives... Using wire, twine and ribbons we will show you how to transform your harvest into your own unique flower crown.

Edible flowers can be used in so many ways including fresh from the garden, dried, or candied. Fresh is fun but candied is extra special because its a simple and beautiful way to preserve the flowers shape and color for use dried. Our pansy patch is bursting with unique, ruffled and brilliantly colored large pansy flowers which we will candy and sun dry for you to take home and use whenever the mood suits you.

Flowers and plant matter can be used to dye cloth in a variety of ways however one simple and very expressive way to dye with flowers is to place the flower pieces and leaves directly on fabric then pressing and steaming the fabric. Each piece is unique and the variations in tones, shapes and colors is magical. We will bring heaps of plant material of all shapes, sizes and colors for you all to use to dye an organic cotton tea towel to bring home and use in your kitchen.
