This product is currently sold out.
Join us on Saturday March 7th to learn about the wide world of herbal digestive aids with South Florida native herbalism Justine Hazelcorn. Justine joined our farm team for the 2016 season and since then she has been traveling the country working on herb farms, studying & practicing herbalism and learning all she can about the magical practice of healing with herbs. Her journey started with a coveted season long internship at Herb Pharm in Oregon, followed by an apprenticeship at Flower Power (one of Manhattans oldest apothecaries), and she recently graduated from the North East School of Botanical Medicine. We are thrilled to have her back in Miami and back in our nursery space to share her wealth of knowledge with you all.
Many cultures have been using herbs to soothe or stimulate the digestive system for thousands of years, since its such a powerful, large and important part of our bodies. In the 1800s bitters were introduced to the world as a medicinal and digestive tonic before they became popular in cocktail making, as bitter herbs work in the body to stimulate the stomach, produce digestive enzymes and activate the pancreas. Alternatively, soothing herbs like calendula and marshmallow are used in tea preparations & elixirs to calm digestive fires and soothe the system when its under stress or experiencing trauma.
Join in our digestive herbalism class as we learn about the medicinal properties of some of our favorite tropical herbs and veggies like fennel, ginger, sage, ginger, peppermint and bitter plants like dandelion & bidens alba and how to use them for their stimulating or soothing effects in the body.
As a group we will be making a digestive bitter (alcohol free, made with apple cider vinegar), a soothing dried tea blend, and a glycerin based tincture for digestive health made from plants we harvest from the garden. Participants will also get to take home a zine made by Justine with lots of info about the herbs we will be discussing, the recipes we make, and more!
