When shopping for lettuce head varieties it is of most importance that you get “heat tolerant” varieties. Many of the fancy varieties like “speckled deer tongue” won’t grow well in our hot winter months, and they will respond to the heat by “bolting”, which makes them inedible. When your lettuce starts to get “tall” like it's reaching to the sky, that means it's bolting; aka trying to flower and reproduce. “Muir Lettuce” is Johnny Select Seeds “most heat tolerant variety” which is like music to our ears. According to their field trials this variety was the slowest to bolt. Sold! Can be harvested as full mature heads or treated as “cut and come again” for baby leaf.

If you are looking for muir in a 6 pack option we mix it with Cherokee in our Salad Bowl 6 Pack.
