Coreopsis is Floridas State Wildflower, which is just one reason why we love it so much. Lacey leafed Tickseed grows in small clumps throughout the state, and 17 different varieties are considered natives. Sometimes forming extensive colonies, these flowers are usually found growing along roadsides and in open fields throughout the Eastern United States and Canada. In this environment they will normally self-sow, but they can also be divided in clumps. The flowers are usually yellow and red with tooth tipped petals and are used as nectar and pollen plants for insects and pollinators alike, some even serving as food for caterpillars! The sunny, daisy-like flowers are popular in home gardens for this reason. Coreopsis is also a great dying flower lending itself exceptionally well to direct dying with processes like bundle dying or hammer pressing.
Planting and growing tips: plant seeds 1/4 inch deep in premoistened potting mix in a small pot or seedling tray. Keep cells moist in partial shade until germination, when they can be moved to full sun exposure. Seeds take 5-10 days to germinate. We plant about 5 seeds per cell when propagating these so that the plant is denser when mature. Once flowering these plants will keep going however you can prune back their flowering branches to encourage new growth. Allow it to self seed and it will eventually spread itself throughout your garden in the most charming way.
All seeds were harvested from our urban farm and plant nursery in 2022. Seed packages are hand silkscreened by Gold Teeth Brooklyn, a handmade stationery company based in Los Angeles.
Seeds have been tested for reliable germination in our nursery at 80 degree daytime temperatures. We recommend using them within 1 year of date of purchase.
