Our Introduction to Summer Gardening in South Florida Workshop aims to introduce you to the wild and weird world of tropical perennial forest gardening. This is a 1.5 hour long lecture style workshop focusing on the following topics:
-why is summer growing so different/ challenging. Heat, humidity, rainfall.
-what plants will thrive in the summer months
-introduction to permaculture
-what is a perennial food forest
-how to design a food forest guild
-what is cover cropping
-how to build soil during the summer months
After the lecture farmer Tiffany will take you on a tour of the fields of French Farms to learn more about cover cropping in his cover cropped fields, and we will swing by the farms multiple compost piles to learn more about composting. This workshop is a bonanza of vital information if you are thinking of growing your own food during the summer, which is our most challenging season to garden through.
