look out for: nothing!
harvest notes: flowers are edible
Porterweed comes in many different varieties with lots of different growth habits and bloom colors, but not all of them are natives. This is the "classic" native species with a blue flower. Fun fact: all porterweed flowers are edible, and they taste like mushrooms! Add porterweed to your pollinator garden as a host plant for the Tropical Buckeye butterfly and to add a nectar source for most other butterflies. While it is considered a perennial it is a short lived one so expect it to last just a couple of years at most. Porterweed will happily spread its seeds in your garden and replicate itself if allowed to.
