Natural Dyeing Workshop with Nikki of Sun Sister, Saturday January 22nd
Sun Sister founder Nikki is an Iranian-American herbalist and artist who created Sun Sister in response to seeking a holistic approach to her own healing journey. After working as a creative producer for several years in New York City, her path led her to a very different way of being, one of deep connection and communion with Mother Earth and healing plants.
For this workshop Nikki will be leading the group in two different natural dyeing processes; bundle dyeing and immersion bath. Participants will learn how to choose & prepare fabric and botanicals and all about the two processes and how to use locally sourced plant material to make dye. We will take advantage of the abundance of colors, textures, leaves, barks, roots, and flowers available at the farm when making our unique bundle dyed silk scarves.
Each participant will get to bundle dye a silk scarf and also tie dye or simply immersion dye a silk scarf in a farm prepared dye bath. As our dye projects dry in the sun farmer Tiffany will talk about growing and foraging popular local dye plants and we will partake in a colorful farm salad for a light lunch.
