Society garlic is a super cool perennial tropical plant that we are lucky to occasionally have available. While its called a garlic and smells and tastes like garlic it is not in the onion & garlic family (allium) but instead its an amaryllis. It makes a beautiful and hearty addition to any frost free food forest and its culinary uses and harvest methods are similar to garlic chives. The beautiful purple flowers are also edible & fragrant, and the plant is even sometimes planted just as an ornamental. This would make a great border plant in your flowering garden too! Whenever you want to harvest some just cut the whole bunch or just a few stalks down at the very base, they will grow back super quickly.
