Versailles mix Cosmos
Cosmos bipinnatus
days to maturity: 80-90 days
plant spacing: 4 per square foot
sunlight requirements: 10-14 hours
look out for: not having enough sun for abundant blooms
harvest notes: Harvest flowers daily once they bloom for continual production, or just enjoy on the plant and dead head before they make seeds.
We've been experimenting more and more with different cosmo varieties recently thanks to our cute little friend the "wild cosmo". While the wild and sulphur cosmos both grow large and branch at the top with flowers, these cosmos are more traditional and stay smaller, producing delicate papery blooms in hues from baby pink to fuchsia. Garden cosmos like the Versailles mix can be a bit spindly so make sure you plant them in at least 8 hours of sun, ideally more. Harvest the flowers as they bloom or just scatter the plants around and watch them bloom in the garden.
