Worchester Indian is a lima bean of Native American Origin and is confirmed to be a pre-1868 variety by its growers, Southern Exposure Seed Exchange in Virginia. This lima bean is their heartiest lima and is super heat tolerant, which is one of our favorite traits about lima beans. The seeds are a beautiful dark shiny maroon red and are a bit smaller than the lima bean varieties you can buy in the canned section of the grocery store. Lima beans are a great option for a pole bean, meaning one that grows tall and needs to be trellised. When grown in a tropical climate like ours lima beans can be happy and produce beans for a very extended period of time, so you can even consider growing these in your food forest or on your perimeter fence, not just your raised bed.
