Pansies & violas can have a mild, fresh flavor or a more prominent wintergreen taste, depending on the variety and on how much of the flower you eat (a whole flower tastes stronger then the petals alone). Pansies and violas are basically the same plant but Pansy is used to refer to larger flowers, and violas for the smaller ones. Use the flowers to garnish cocktails, soups, and desserts. One reason why we love pansies & violas in the garden so much is because there are so many colorful varieties to choose from. Like most other flowering annuals pansies prefer full sun and need lots of water. To encourage continued flowering harvest flowers often. Once a flowering plant is allowed to make seed it will produce much less flowers, so don't be scared of picking precious flowers, as you will be rewarded with more of them!
