This tomato variety was developed by the University of Florida for particularly hot and humid growing conditions. This exceptionally disease-resistant variety has excellent versatility as a garden, greenhouse, or market tomato. The fruit averages 8 to 9 oz., is thick-walled, and tends to sit high on the vine under a protective cover of foliage. The sweet flavored fruits ripen to red with slight green shoulders. Recommended highly for the Mid-Atlantic, and hot, humid disease-prone areas, especially where blight is a problem. Tropic is categorized as a VFN type, which refers to its disease resistance package. That means it's resistant to Verticillium wilt, fusarium wilt and nematodes. Not familiar with our most problematic soil borne pest, the nematode? well, its a real issue in South Florida especially for full season crops like tomatoes, so a nematode resistant variety is a true gift of tomato breeding.
