The Miami Culinary Institute garden is a unique and rare oasis in the midst of downtown Miami. In the 7 years that our team has been in charge of cultivating this garden many new sky rises have gone up around us, a few of them directly across the street. The almost 7,000 square foot plot features an amazing collection of mature rare fruit trees; trees like Makrut Lime, Cattley Guava and Black Sapote create a seamless canopy around the perimeter of the garden. The middle of the space is wide open to the sun and features a series of oversized circular planting beds for annual vegetables and herbs. The goal of our team is to produce interesting crops for the Culinary Institute’s student run cafe. We visit a couple of times per month to keep up with production and harvest, often joined by students and faculty who are there to learn about ingredients and organic gardening methods.
