We are currently hiring for the following positions:
Freelance Bookkeeper!
Little River Coop needs a new bookkeeper! While we do need the classic bookkeeper duties like tracking expenses and income (via quickbooks) running payroll, and prepping for taxes, we could also use more help making decisions about pricing and other financial decisions we often have to make on our own. If you think you could be our bookkeeper plus advice-giver get in touch! We are happy to pay your rate, are flexible with scheduling and our books are relatively tidy.
Duties include:
Running payroll (via quickbooks)
Managing our quickbooks file on a weekly basis
Filing our Sales & Use tax (we are on a monthly calendar with them)
Helping with any random financial stuff that comes up, like unemployment claims, workers compensation audits, invoicing discrepancies, etc.
Ideally a biweekly meeting lasting no more than 1 hour to look over the books/ reports and resolve outstanding issues, get advice on larger financial issues.
Our old book keeper, who was amazing but unfortunately had to move on to another position, says this is a 10 hour a week role if done properly.
Please email mail@littlerivercooperative.com if you are interested in applying your bookkeeping skills to our small but mighty business!

While we are not currently hiring for the below positions we are always interested in learning about people who might be a good fit for our team. If you are interested in working with please read our position descriptions carefully and follow the instructions to apply.
Nursery Grower - Part Time (3-4 days a week, the days being every Monday, Tuesday & Friday at our Redland nursery and occasional Saturdays at the farmers market at Legion Park)
If you are someone who can begin and follow through on projects to completion, set and achieve high standards of conduct and are alert and sensitive to problems, you just may be the perfect team member we are looking for. Small scale agricultural work can be physically challenging but also requires attention to detail, initiative when working independently and on a team, and an engaging level of focus on the task at hand.
As a Nursery grower your main responsibility will be seeding & up potting our inventory of organic seedlings. Seeding is the starting of seeds in trays of germination mix, and involves attention to detail when making the germination mix and keeping track of whats being seeded and when. Up potting is the process of taking the baby plants from the seeding tray and putting them in larger pots so they can mature and then be sold. Nursery growers also pack online orders of plants and material for online customers, occasionally help customers in person and will also be expected to eventually be able to identify all plants by sight and retain some fun info about each plant and how to care for it, use it, etc. While it may sound simple theres lots to learn about making healthy plants and keeping plants happy organically, so we will train you how to properly water, fertilize, manage pests and organize the greenhouse. Everyone who works at our nursery also participates in general maintenance of the potting area and our property including participating in clean up after work days, weeding & weed whacking around the space, emptying out used or bad trays of plants into our farm compost, packing our vans with plants for market and general greenhouse care and maintenance. Many tasks like seeding & up potting will be done as a team in our potting house and while we enjoy talking as a team, listening to music, and getting to know each other we also strive to maintain an efficiency with our tasks that is critical for our operation. Its quite meditative & precise hand-based work so the ability to talk and focus on the task at hand is critical. The Nursery grower will work with the Nursery Manager to make sure all seeding & up potting weekly tasks are completed on time, and if it requires extra hours of work ideally the grower is flexible and can work additional hours for additional pay, especially during our high season, which is September - December.
This position requires moderate physical fitness (the ability lift 50 pounds regularly throughout the day) and all work will take place outdoors and can sometimes be quite hot (although the potting shed we work in is shaded). Starting pay is 15$/ hour. For aspiring plant lovers you will have access to free plants aging out of our nursery on a weekly basis, free participation in our educational workshops, and access to fresh organic produce from our family garden. This job takes place at an agricultural property in the Redlands, so you would need to be able to reliably commute to and from the Redlands from your residence for work and you will occasionally be asked to drive our plant-mobile (sprinter van) from our outpost property in Little River to the Nursery & back. IMPORTANT: Work days for this position are MONDAYS, TUESDAYS, FRIDAYS and occasional Saturdays manning our booth at the Legion Park Farmers Market.

Small scale agricultural work can be physically challenging but also requires attention to detail, initiative when working independently and on a team, and an engaging level of focus on the task at hand.
Experienced gardeners are preferred, but this can be a training position for staff new to edible plants. You will perform all aspects of commercial gardening. This will include installing raised beds, moving soil, planting, weeding, pruning, mulching, pest and disease treatment. This position works as an assistant to a Lead Gardener so it is a team player position for someone who has the ability to follow directions, lift heavy objects, work neatly and pay attention to details. This position will be working with the garden manager and communicating on a weekly basis to be prepared for garden jobs. Every day on the gardening team is different which is why we love the work so much. We work all over Miami-Dade county planting fruit trees, Florida native plants and vegetable gardens. We joke that this job is like “gardening cross fit” because it is very physical, takes place outdoors in the elements, and requires more physical fitness and endurance than most other jobs. That being said we work as a team to get the job done and do our best to enjoy ourselves and be present in the beauty of our gardening surroundings every day. Starting pay is 15$/ hour.
